MEC Motlhabane to lead car free day and commemorate Mme Albertinah Sisulu Centenary

North West MEC for the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, Dr Mpho Motlhabane encourages motorists to leave their cars at home to use public transport, buses and taxis on non-motorists transport such as bicycles and walking to their respective work places and shopping on the 18th October 2018.

Motlhabane says the initiative will help reducing traffic congestion on the roads and contributes in eliminating carnages on the roads. “We have a number of road accidents caused by traffic congestion because motorists end up been impatient more especially during pick hours.

With this initiative, the number of cars would be reduced on the road as we further encourage our people to use public transport and non motorist,” says Motlhabane.
The Departmental MEC will lead a cleaning campaign at the Bradfort Part Long Distance Taxi Rank in Mahikeng; continue with the activities of the day by using a local taxi to experience the conditions of public transport and lead a fun walk with women from different sectors from Mahikeng and the Province at large, who will be part of the centenary commemoration.

People are therefore requested to take pictures or selfies on this day, and post in your respective department’s social media pages. Also share experiences and pictures using public transport, non motorised transport (bicycle) or walking to work on our departmental social media pages.

The car free day initiative promotes improvement of mass transit, cycling and walking to work where jobs are closer to home and where shopping is within walking distance.

As part of the day’s activities, MEC Motlhabane will also deliver keynote address during the Departmental commemoration of Albertina Sisulu centenary that will be held in a form of prayer session.
